Best Time to Visit Morocco: A Complete Weather Guide

Morocco is a country of extreme geographical diversity, featuring the snowy peaks of the Atlas Mountains, the scorching sands of the Sahara, and the breezy Atlantic coast. This means the "best" time to visit depends entirely on what you want to experience.

Spring (Mid-March to May) - The Sweet Spot

Spring is widely considered the best overall time to visit Morocco. The landscape is lush and green after the winter rains, the temperatures are pleasantly warm (usually in the 70s and 80s Fahrenheit), and the mountain passes are clear of snow. This is the perfect season for combining a city tour with a desert trek.

Autumn (September to November) - Perfect for the Desert

Autumn is the second most popular season. The intense heat of the summer has broken, making it an excellent time to visit the Sahara Desert before the freezing winter nights set in. The cities are lively, and the weather is generally clear and sunny.

Summer (June to August) - Coast and Mountains

Summer in Morocco can be blisteringly hot, particularly in Marrakech, Fes, and the desert (where temperatures often exceed 110°F / 43°C). If you travel during the summer, head to the Atlantic coast (like Essaouira or Agadir) where the ocean breeze keeps things cool, or trek high up in the Atlas Mountains.

Winter (December to February) - Quiet and Crisp

Winter brings snow to the Atlas Mountains and very cold nights in the desert. However, daytime temperatures in cities like Marrakech remain sunny and mild. It's a great time to visit if you prefer fewer crowds and lower prices, but be sure to pack warm layers for the evening!
