Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your Moroccan adventure.

General Travel Questions

What is the difference between pricing levels?

The difference is primarily in the level of accommodations. Classic Comfort uses excellent 4-star local riads. Affordable Luxury upgrades you to premium 5-star properties, and Deluxe Luxury includes the absolute finest, world-renowned luxury hotels and palaces available in Morocco.

When is the best time to visit Morocco?

Spring (March to May) and Fall (September to November) are universally considered the best times to visit Morocco due to the pleasant weather, making it ideal for both city exploration and Sahara desert treks.

What should I pack for a Sahara Desert tour?

The key to packing for the desert is layers. The days are extremely hot, but the nights can be freezing. You should pack a warm fleece, comfortable sandals, a power bank, and a long scarf to protect against the wind.

Do I need a visa to enter Morocco?

Citizens of the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and most European countries do not need a visa to enter Morocco as a tourist for stays up to 90 days. You only need a passport with at least 6 months of validity remaining from your date of entry.

What is the local currency? Can I use credit cards?

The local currency is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). While major hotels, high-end restaurants, and large tourist shops accept credit cards, Morocco is still largely a cash-based society. You will need cash for small purchases, local markets (souks), and tipping. ATMs are widely available in cities.

Is it safe for U.S. citizens to travel to Morocco now?

Yes, Morocco is widely considered one of the safest countries in North Africa for U.S. citizens and Western tourists. The Moroccan government places a high priority on tourism security, and violent crime against tourists is extremely rare. Exercise normal precautions, such as guarding against pickpockets in crowded markets.

Should I bring toilet paper to Morocco?

Yes, it is highly recommended to carry a small pack of tissues or toilet paper, along with hand sanitizer. While hotels and tourist restaurants will have toilet paper, many public restrooms and cafes may not, or they may charge a small fee for it.

Can I brush my teeth with tap water in Morocco?

While the tap water in major Moroccan cities is treated and generally safe for locals, visitors often experience stomach upset due to different microbes. It is recommended to use bottled water for drinking and brushing your teeth to ensure you stay healthy during your trip.

Are Moroccans friendly to Americans?

Moroccans are incredibly hospitable and known for their warm, welcoming nature toward all tourists, including Americans. Morocco was actually the first country to recognize the independence of the United States in 1777, and the two countries share a long, peaceful history.

What to avoid doing in Morocco?

Avoid drinking tap water, taking photos of locals without asking permission (especially in rural areas), and disrespecting Islamic traditions. Also, avoid showing excessive public displays of affection, and remember that non-Muslims are generally not allowed inside active mosques (except the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca).

Can you go to Morocco while pregnant?

Yes, many women travel to Morocco while pregnant. However, you should consult your doctor first. Be prepared for long car rides, hot weather, and ensure you only drink bottled water and eat at reputable restaurants to avoid foodborne illnesses.
