We depart Marrakech and ascend the spectacular High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka pass. We will visit the ancient fortified village of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site featured in countless movies. After a lunch break, we continue to Ouarzazate to see the Taourirt Kasbah and Atlas Film Studios. We end our day traveling through the Valley of Roses to the scenic Dades Valley for our first night's accommodation.
Following breakfast, we drive to the spectacular Todra Gorge, a massive fault dividing the High Atlas mountains, rising up 300 meters in a narrow valley. Enjoy a peaceful walk by the river. Afterwards, we travel through Erfoud, renowned for its fossilized marble, heading towards the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi in Merzouga. Upon arrival, you'll check into a charming desert hotel located at the edge of the dunes to relax and prepare for tomorrow's desert immersion.
Today is dedicated to exploring the wonders of the Merzouga region. We'll start by visiting Khamlia village, home to people of Malian descent, to enjoy their traditional Gnawa music. We then venture off-road to visit the ancient Mifis mines and share a cup of tea with Berber nomad families living in hand-woven tents. In the late afternoon, you will embark on a sunset camel trek across the shifting sand dunes to your luxury desert camp. Enjoy a traditional dinner, Berber drumming, and sleep under a blanket of stars.
An early wake-up call rewards you with a spectacular sunrise over the Sahara dunes. After breakfast, ride your camel back to the edge of the desert. We then begin our journey back to Marrakech, driving through the vast palm groves of the Draa Valley and crossing the Anti-Atlas mountains via the Tizi n'Tnifift pass. We pass through Ouarzazate and traverse the High Atlas mountains once more before arriving back in Marrakech in the late afternoon or early evening.
